Ad zones

Where ads appear: header, content, sidebar, above Continue, footer.

Purpose

Ad zones define where monetization code appears on publication pages, articles, and Gate hops. Configure them under Admin → Publication Sites → Ad zones.

Providers

  • Zone script (third-party) — paste HTML/JS from any network (Smartlink wrappers, Social Bar, banners).
  • AdSense — slot ID; rendered as responsive ins.adsbygoogle.
  • PPI — pay-per-install style scripts.
  • Internal — platform-controlled HTML.

Site-wide vs page-specific

Leave page scope empty for a site-wide default. Assign a page to override that key only on that page. Articles use site-wide zones (same as the public article template).

Gates & active_zones

A Gate step can highlight a subset of zones. Empty active_zones = show all configured zones for that content. This lets hop 1 show header+above_cta while hop 2 shows a lighter set.

Best practice One heavy interactive format (e.g. Social Bar) per page. Don’t stack multiple popunders. Never ask users to click AdSense ads to unlock Continue.

UI map

The ad-zones screen shows a five-cell map: highlighted cells already have a configured zone. Labels match the Gate highlighter (“Top of page”, “Above Continue”, etc.).
