Gate pages (content locker)
Movie-site style hops: ads, countdown, auto-scroll, Continue — pages & articles.
What a Gate is
A Gate is a Smart Flow step that shows a publication page or article with ad zones, a countdown, optional auto-scroll to the Continue bar, and a locked Continue button until timer (and scroll) requirements are met. This matches the classic movie / game download “safelink” pattern — without forcing AdSense clicks.
Visitor experience
- Page loads with brand, title, body, and ad slots.
- Countdown starts (default ~8 seconds, configurable 5–60).
- If auto-scroll is on, the page smoothly scrolls toward Continue (respects reduced-motion).
- If require-scroll is on, Continue stays locked until the button is in view.
- When unlocked, Continue advances to the next Flow step (another Gate or Redirect).
- Multi-gate flows show a progress chip such as
Step 1/2.
Content modes
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Specific | Uses the first selected page (preferred) or article. |
| Pool (random) | Picks randomly from selected pages/articles; remembers seen items via _seen so hops vary. |
| Random from site | Picks from all published pages/articles on the chosen publication site (filtered by content type). |
Content type can be pages only, articles only, or either.
Zone highlighter
In the Gate editor, click the five-cell map to choose which ad zones render on that hop:
header— Top of page (good for network / Social Bar / popunder scripts)in_content_1— In the article body areasidebar— Beside content (desktop)above_cta— Directly above Continuefooter— Footer
Empty selection = all zones. Scripts themselves are managed under the publication site’s Ad zones screen.

- Button text / wait message
- Progress label template:

AdSense compliance
Do not instruct visitors to “click the ad to continue.” Place AdSense units for impressions; unlock Continue with time + scroll only. Network Smartlink / popunder scripts may fire from zone HTML on load or interaction — never as a fake AdSense click gate.
Admin vs publisher
- Admins manage publication sites, articles, pages, and zone scripts.
- Publishers select from the published catalog when building Gate steps (unpublished IDs are rejected).
Demo path for clients
- Publication site with 2 pages + 2 articles; zone scripts on
headerandabove_cta. - Platform flow: CAPTCHA → Gate (random site) → Gate (specific article) → Redirect.
- Set as default; open a short link on mobile and desktop.
